Hello, I am Daniele Di Nubila, owner of Tenuta Padì, and today I want to tell you about a very special moment for us: the start of the 2025 harvest of our Peperone Crusco di Senise PGI.
It was not an easy journey. This year, nature wanted to put us to the test. The heavy rainfall in late spring and the scorching heat that came soon after made this one of the most challenging seasons we have ever experienced. Yet, we made it through. And today, with hands full of soil and a heart full of pride, we can finally say: the harvest has begun.
A difficult year, between abnormal rainfall and extreme heat
Our adventure started uphill. Adverse weather conditions forced us to postpone pepper transplants until the end of May, much later than the norm. This delay affected the entire production cycle, calling into question everything we had planned in the previous months.
But it didn't end there. A few days after the transplantation, an unprecedented heat wave hit the entire region, sending temperatures soaring to 42 degrees. Extreme weather that has put a strain on the plants, but above all on us farmers.
In those difficult days, the strength of our team emerged. We activated targeted irrigation strategies, integrated specific nutrients to support plants and organised gruelling shifts under the sun. It was a hard time, made of silent sacrifices, but also of great determination.
True agricultural work: toil, dedication and love for the land
Those who work the land know: farming is not just production. It is an act of love. Every fruit we harvest is the result of a long chain of choices, sacrifices and passion.
At Tenuta Padì, every pepper that arrives in our drying kilns and then on your tables is cultivated in the Lucanian tradition, according to the specifications of the PGI Senise pepper. We strive every day to maintain high quality, without compromise.
This year, more than ever, the harvest is a symbol of resistance. Resistance of the plants that endured the heat. Resistance of us farmers, who have not given up. Resistance of those who, like you, continue to choose the products of our land, supporting authentic agriculture, made up of real people.
The Peperone Crusco di Senise PGI: an all-Lucanian excellence
The Peperone Crusco di Senise PGI is one of the best-loved gastronomic symbols of the Basilicata. With its deep red colour, sweet flavour and unmistakable crunchiness, it has become the undisputed protagonist of many traditional recipes over the years.
But not all cruschi peppers are the same. Only those grown in compliance with the PGI specification and processed using artisanal methods can boast this designation. At Tenuta Padì we take care of our product at every stage: from sowing to harvesting, from drying to packaging, everything is handmade.
Each individual pepper is picked by hand and hung for natural drying in the Lucanian sun. An ancient technique that preserves the fruit's aromas and nutrients intact. Only after this stage are the peppers briefly fried in extra virgin olive oil to become the famous “cruschi”: crispy, light and irresistible.
Harvest 2025: a shared achievement
Today, when we harvest the first peppers of the season, we feel the weight of all the sacrifices made. But we also feel your presence, the presence of those who have chosen to believe in us, buy our products and tell our story.
Why yes, every time you choose our Peperone Crusco di Senise PGI, you are choosing much more than an agricultural product. You are choosing a project, a vision, a community.
And for that, we want to tell you thank you. Thank you for being there. Thank you for believing in authentic products, in the short supply chain, in quality made by hands and not by machines.
